Episode description

Luke 22:7-20

  1. Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
  2. So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.
  3. They said to him, Where will you have us prepare it?
  4. He said to them, Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters
  5. and tell the master of the house, The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?
  6. And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.
  7. And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
  8. And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him.
  9. And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
  10. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
  11. And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves.
  12. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
  13. And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
  14. And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

Lords Day 25

  1. Q. Since then faith alone makes us share in Christ and all his benefits, where does this faith come from? A. From the Holy Spirit, 1 who works it in our hearts by the preaching of the gospel, 2 and strengthens it by the use of the sacraments. 3 1.Jn 3:5; 1 Cor 2:10-14; Eph 2:8; Phil 1:29. 2.Rom 10:17; 1 Pet 1:23-25. 3.Mt 28:19, 20; 1 Cor 10:16.

  2. Q. What are the sacraments? A. The sacraments are holy, visible signs and seals. They were instituted by God so that by their use he might the more fully declare and seal to us the promise of the gospel. 1 And this is the promise: that God graciously grants us forgiveness of sins and everlasting life because of the one sacrifice of Christ accomplished on the cross. 2 1.Gen 17:11; Deut 30:6; Rom 4:11. 2.Mt 26:27, 28; Acts 2:38; Heb 10:10.

  3. Q. Are both the Word and the sacraments then intended to focus our faith on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as the only ground of our salvation? A. Yes, indeed. The Holy Spirit teaches us in the gospel and assures us by the sacraments that our entire salvation rests on Christ’s one sacrifice for us on the cross. 1 1.Rom 6:3; 1 Cor 11:26; Gal 3:27.

  4. Q. How many sacraments has Christ instituted in the new covenant? A. Two: holy baptism and the holy supper. 1 1.Mt 28:19, 20; 1 Cor 11:23-26. 1.Holy Baptism
